Perhaps it is because this happened to someone in my family, who is now free, once away from the confines of the institution. I wanted to make a sign that read: Free ____, and walk up and down the sidewalk in front of the place, though I didn’t have the guts, for fear the people that work in that dreadful place would chase after me with their syringes, phony-theory disease ‘categories’ and zip ties! I wanted to stage a protest, a revolution against their ‘treatment’ of human beings, though I feel they wouldn’t understand due to their complete lack of empathy. Again, I applaud you, you are strong and I admire this in any individual that falls victim to the egregious, malicious, and very dark and destructive spin-off of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual’s book of theories. Squach Crimes against humanity. It really is that simple. I think this demonstrates the impact of violating a person very clearly. It can also be used to convey, in some small way, the sexual abuse of children who cannot place words to the things that happen to them or defend themselves intellectually.
Any profession that aims to improve health and ignores the sheer magnitude of sexual abuse is unethical and dishonest. That would sum up psychiatry in a few words. They are not about helping anyone but rather demonstrating their power and authority regardless of the impact on the people they come in contact with.

I don't understand why these organizations like NAMI, etc, don't advocate more. I try to advocate and educate as many folks as possible. I freely tell people that I have an anxiety disorder and depression. I was a paramedic, and lived in a metaphorical closet for fear of retribution from an employer, or a partner not trusting me. I've heard every derogatory comment in the book. Like I always say, things people don't understand, they fear and ridicule. I am out to educate as many people as I can with whatever time I have left in this wretched world.
Stephen Gilbert I attended a meeting a year ago where a psychiatrist who is supposedly the expert on use of neuroleptics during pregnancy stated that all of these drugs used by psychiatry are perfectly safe for pregnant mothers to take. He is employed by a university medical center so he teaches this to the new doctors and med students. He hinted that, even if there might be bad effects that these effects are better than letting the mother live in the delusions of schizophrenia, the schizophrenia would be worse than the drugs’ effects. Steve Spiegel The “othering process” is problematic but I believe that the following statement is more problematic; “we all experience distress at some point in our lives” This statement erroneously implies that distressful experiences are similar- that the distressful experiences of community leaders are similar to the distressful experiences of the marginalized and disenfranchised. The essence of psychiatry is naming a "wrongness" about a person, claiming it is their identity, and using that to make nothing out of the person, and justify violence and loss of freedom. In other words, a diagnosis is formalised stigmatisation. A formalised insult. In other words, it is legalised bullying. It's the psych telling someone what _they_ think is wrong, and insisting they "correct" it or face coercive handling. So, everyone here should understand and empathise what it is like to be treated that way; What it is like to be not-believed; to be be disregarded; to be stigmatised because of viewpoint or belief; to be told "your opinion is not worthy"; to be told "you are mentally deficient". Anyone here should understand this, because this is what psychiatry does. So please, everyone here, take a moment to consider what it means to fall into that same mistake, that same trap, which the psychiatrist is in. Consider it, and vow not to repeat that mistake - the mistake of thinking your opinion is more important or more valid, and using that to insult, abuse, threaten violence or use triggering words on someone, just because you "think they are wrong". I don't care what you believe. I don't care who you turn to for comfort or cosmic knowledge or eternal salvation. I want to help defend each of you against psychiatry; to dismantle psychiatry one psychiatrist at a time. But please, treat each other (and me) with respect and good manners. Abusive cussing at someone is NEVER helpful. Trying to make them feel bad because of religious or political beliefs or any cultural difference is never the route to peace or teamwork. Let's also keep conversations on topic. I'm requesting that this is more pro-actively addressed, with a genuine impartiality. Anything less than this is a social ugliness; a misery-creation activity. Stewart Cambridge Sometimes I will see a post or a comment here which is "reasonable" about psychiatry. By "reasonable", I mean such attitudes as:
- They're trying to help
- They do have some expertise
- It's pretty bad, but it's best we have so far
- I don't like my drugs, but I am <insert diagnosis here> (Thereby implying agreement with the diagnosis)
My personal opinion is that psychiatry is so evil and vile, that there is _never_ a situation where it should be used. I mean, I wouldn't even use it on wartime military enemies - it's too inhumane. (Shoot them on the battlefield or take them POW.)
How do I justify such an extreme view?
Because the entire philosophy is based upon telling another person what is wrong with them, and then forcing "treatment" upon them.
When a psychiatrist is being arrogant, that's exactly what he has been trained to do - to believe that he is right and that it is his job to identify the wrongness of the other.
The bedrock philosophy precludes humility, listening or learning from the get-go.
Just one example:
I once made a detailed study of the forms and training procedures recommended & used when faced with a new "patient". These forms & procedures actually came from the Royal Society of Medicine (not even the RCPsych)
The procedure was kind of a checklist or what to ask or inspect about the patient, when deciding what "illness" they have, and whether to section them or not. It was kind of a flow-chart. "If they say X, go to step 7." That kind of thing.
NOWHERE on the forms, and NOWHERE in the procedure was there ANY hint that the person was NOT ill.
There was no, "After you check X and Y, and test for Z, this means they are not ill. Let them go."
It doesn't matter who you are. If you end up on that form, on that procedure, you are PRESUMED ILL from the onset. There is no "He's not ill" scenario.
The decision that you are ill, is a decision made before they even start the forms. The forms are merely to decide _which_ "illness" you have.
Therefore, the decision that you are ill, is UNDOCUMENTED.
Because in psychiatry, _everyone_ is "mentally ill".
And that's why it is evil.

And made the biggest mistake of my life by going to my GP. Three years later, three drug akathisia induced serious suicide attempts and coming off 14 psychiatric drugs on my own, my memory shot up, lithium hand shaking, complaints rejected and I’ve come to realise the full scale of this crime.

Sue Cunliffe I am on Radio Hereford and Worcester tomorrow morning at 6,7 7.38 and 8 am( prerecorded). Midlands Today are filming me on Tuesday. To all those that know me I had electroconvulsive therapy in 2004 and 2005. I like many others were given " misinformed" consent and sadly many of us suffered severe, permanent brain damage. I see myself as lucky survivor because of the support that I received. Many of the survivors have not been as lucky.
I am trying to bring the controversy of ECT to an end. There are people who feel that ECT saved theirs lives, I will not dispute that fact. What I do know is that ECT research has been doctored to make it look more effective than it is, and to look safer than it is. I have evidence of this. Even the Royal College of Psychiatrists information sheet is written in a way to bias towards ECT. The machines have never been tested. I am asking for an independent enquiry into ECT that includes a review of patients notes. None of us have ever received an apology. All brain injured patients should get support to learn to live with their brain damage. ECT machines should be rigorously tested in line with all medical procedures in the UK. All existing research should be reassessed and an accurate risk benefit made. If needed, more research should be done. In that way if ECT continues patients can truly sign an informed consent. I also want each patient having ECT to be constantly monitored by a psychologist. I am asking that a support website is created for those in search of information and support. In 2000 the Guardian ran an article about Pat Butterworth who along with 600 patients was trying to sue her psychiatrist. Nothing happened. When in our society was it OK to ignore such side effects? Only when we are psychiatric patients? Following on from these programs it seems hopeful that a full length documentary will be commissioned.
I was a doctor but can't work. Using my knowledge to improve mental health care is a more than worthy challenge. To use my skills in such a way and hopefully bring change will give my loss some meaning. Thanks for reading this.
Sue Helen Oakley I had O.C.D., self-harm, very severe depression; anorexia, bulimia; many phobias; 4 suicide attempts. I also had a baby. First suicide attempt when she was 15 months.
Docs then became 'aware', & prescribed Diazepam. As it causes depression, it was contraindicated. That was 1977.
In 1980, I was forcibly withdrawn from it. Torture and then some. I said I had withdrawal symptoms. They said it wasn't addictive, & prescribed a host of anti-psychotics, including Nardil, though my records say I've never been psychotic.
Back on Diazepam throughout my second pregnancy. Daughter's heart stopped at birth. She had numerous behacioural problems, after a very quiet, limp babyhood.
I was again thrown into a withdrawal hell.
In 1995, I was on 4 mg daily, & ready to finish coming off slowly. I was then given an antibiotic called Doxycycline. It threw me into cold-turkey withdrawal, & 3 years of hell followed. In the end I told my doc I'd had enough. Back onto 20 mg daily.
Spontaneous (no cause) withdrawal 2001. 40 mg. Again 2006. 60 mg. That's about it, except to say I'd have been better off on illegal drugs. tter spent elsewhere.

Susan Ann Bevis Not often do i post on Facebook these days but from time to time i am contacted by various people who are going through hell under Psychiatry and occasionally i even get to meet such people who are carers and are so dedicated and loyal to the person rhey care for. This particular person has a relative incarcerated in a private “prison” hospital same one my daughter was sent to but thankfully only briefly. The patient is seriously ill due to psychiatric treatment of enormous quantities of drugs. The carer travels every day to visit but now they want to give ECT. I dont know of anyone who has benefitted from such barbaric treatment. I wonder if anyone lives near to Beckton and if required could maybe act as a witness. Such private prisons do not offer medical help on emergency and patients have to b transferred to NHS. Witnesses are important and the more people who know and can show support. If there is anyone out there who lives in the area and can help in any way please do contact me. This private prison costs £13k pw and such places are absolutely dreadful. Two Drs are recommending ECT and carer concerned is distraught about this.
Susan Biddle It has been a long time since I was an involuntary inpatient. I started to wonder after recent conversations in this group how much the hell hole I was locked in had actually improved. Iooked up some recent reviews by employees online. Now I am angry and feel like people are still not safe there at all. More reviews of the center in comments. If this is how employees feel about the place, imagine how patients who can't leave feel!
Susan Barnett I have a mental health diagnosis. I am not saying I am mentally ill. I have a diagnosis which has legal and political power. As long as I have it people can do what they want to me, have done and do. Ignore, ridicule, abuse. I have to try to control myself under all that for fear of consequences at the hands of the corruption which has imposed it on me. In some people that knowledge brings out real sadism or they think it's a game, fun, a harmless pastime they can get away with. For me, it is torture and I think these people are terrorists.
In Victorian times it used to be a regular and legal Sunday activity for people to go to the asylums and laugh at the patients. I get so low sometimes that I think, as someone with my particular Christian background, that that was something Ram Dass might have called fierce grace, as he did when he first had his stroke. He thought his guru had given it to him for his spiritual betterment. In the same way I sometimes think that was then, and is now, an opportunity given by God to people who are out of step and shouldn't be to come back to right mindedness and right speech and right living. To ME, for instance. And I keep refusing. And I think that makes me a bad person. So much shame attached to that, and embarrassment, along with the fear and anger and hopelessness and grief at a life lost. Or stolen, whatever your view or mine at any given time.

Susan Beyer 48 years ago on September 15,1967 my Father drowned while fishing with friends. He was only 39 years old. I was 15 and the 2nd oldest of Eight children. His body was found down river 48 years ago today.
Within the next 1 1/2 years I attempted suicide twice ( in a two month period). No one ever asked me why? Instead they admitted me to an inpatient Psych ward and gave me 15 rounds of ECT and some heavy unknown drugs . In 6 weeks I had gained 30 pounds and lost my past, including almost all memories of my Father, except the day he died. My emotional pain was acutely intact.
I called the next few years The Black Years. I made inner vows that no one will ever know again what I was really feeling. Needless to say, relationships were really hard for me. I just wanted to share with you all, because you understand that the last thing a grieving teenage girl needed was ECT. I have never recovered what I lost in those six weeks that summer of '69. But listening to your stories have helped me a lot. Thank you for being there.
